JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT retells the classic story of Joseph, his prophetic dreams, and the coat of many colors. Told entirely through song, this magical musical is packed full of unforgettable songs set to a cornucopia of musical styles, from country-western and calypso to bubble-gum pop and rock ‘n’ roll. With spectacular designs, foot-tapping rhythms, and high-energy dances, join us as we take you from Canaan, to Egypt, and home again, on the amazing journey of this dreamer.

AUDITION INFORMATION:
The Levoy Theatre, Home of The Off Broad Street Players Theatre Company, announces auditions for the colorful extravaganza JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT. Join us at The Levoy Theatre on Monday, August 13th, 2018, Tuesday, August 14th, 2018, or Wednesday, August 15th, 2018 from 6 pm – 9 pm for auditions. The Levoy Theatre is located on 130 N. High St., Millville, NJ.
 
ADULTS (ages 14+):
Please be prepared with 16-32 bars of a pop/rock song of your choice written in the style(s) of the show. Please do NOT sing a song from JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT. We are looking for bold, bright, diverse, vivacious, and energetic cast who is ready to have fun and willing to be spontaneous. Dance experience is a plus but not a necessity.
 
An accompanist will be provided. Please provide piano sheet music for our accompanist. If needed, you can also bring an audio file with NO background vocals on an iPod or phone. An auxiliary speaker will be provided. NO acappella auditions will be allowed. You may be asked to sing scales by our accompanist.
 
Be prepared to fill out a conflict sheet at auditions (be as specific as possible about conflicts.) Please make sure you can fully commit to the rehearsal and performance schedules before auditioning.

Walk-ins will be seen between appointments. This is a non-equity, non-paid production. All roles are available.
 
Rehearsals will begin in late August. Rehearsals will typically be held on Sundays from 2 pm-6 pm, Mondays from 6:30 pm-9:30 pm, Wednesdays from 6:30 pm-9:30 pm, and Saturdays in the morning. Rehearsals may be held on other days of the week as needed. Tech week will run from Saturday, November 3rd through Thursday. November 8th, 2018. No absences will be accepted during tech week or performances. Rehearsals will be scheduled to suit cast availability. Not all performers will be asked to attend all rehearsals.
 
KIDS (13 and under):
You will not need to prepare anything for auditions. Just please come to the audition warmed-up and ready to dance and sing. Please wear clothing that you can comfortably move in.
 
You will need to sign-up for one of the two singing group session auditions:
Group 1: 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm (max. 25 kids) on Wednesday, August 15th, 2018
Group 2: 8:00 pm – 9:00 pm (max. 25 kids) on Wednesday, August 15th, 2018
 
ALL kids (in both groups 1 and 2) will be required to be a part of a dance call lasting from 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm on Wednesday, August 15th, 2018.

CHARACTER BREAKDOWN:
NARRATOR – soprano with extended mix/belt range. Vibrant, energetic, charming and animated storyteller. Low F# to High G.
 
JOSEPH – strong singer/actor. Magnetic starring role. Honest and likable with good intent. Must believe in himself and his convictions. Vocal range: high tenor. Low A to High G.
 
JACOB – aged patriarch. He overly dotes on Joseph, to the exclusion of his other sons. Good actor, who can sing and move reasonably well. Actor will play dual roles of Jacob/Potiphar. Vocal range: Low A to C.
 
PHAROAH – the most powerful man in Egypt, Pharaoh is considered a god on earth. Should be an outgoing, engaging entertainer, able to take the stage and connect with an audience. He sings an Elvis-style song, “Song of the King,” and is very comfortable having adoring fans. Strong singer and actor and a good dancer/mover. Will double as Joseph’s brother, Levi. Vocal range: Low B to High G#.
 
POTIPHAR – a powerful and rich Egyptian and Joseph’s employer. Strong actor as well as a good singer. Actor will play dual roles of Jacob/Potiphar. Vocal range: D to B.
 
MRS. POTIPHAR – Female, Strong Dancer. Mrs. Potiphar is an indulgent woman who likes to get her own way, and thinks first and foremost about her own personal gratification. She is razor sharp, beautiful and confident. She will also be a part of the female ensemble.
 
THE BAKER & THE BUTLER – Males. Both Tenors. The Butler and the Baker both work for the Pharaoh. They are both decent men in precarious situations. They need to be good singers and honest actors. Double as brothers.
 
JOSEPH”S BROTHERS – high energy & very active. Strong singers/dancers/actors. Need to be able to develop unique characters and sing harmony. Able to portray wide range of performance styles. Able to act as a group, but have their own different personalities, talents, and flaws.
 
Reuben – eldest son of Jacob; sings “One More Angel in Heaven” in a country western style, needs good comic timing. Will also be tracked in Ensemble.
 
Simeon – second son; sings “Those Canaan Days” in the style of Maurice Chevalier/French bistro, needs good comic timing. Will also be tracked in Ensemble.
 
Levi – third son; will also play role of “Pharoah,” See above blurb. Will also be tracked in Ensemble.
 
Napthali – sixth son. Will also be tracked in Ensemble.
 
Issachar – ninth son. Will also play role of the Baker. See above blurb. Will also be tracked in Ensemble.
 
Asher – eighth son. Will also play an Ishmalite/Camel and be tracked in ensemble.
 
Dan – fifth son. Will also play an Ishmalite/Snake and be tracked in ensemble.
 
Zebulun – tenth son. Excellent mover. Will be featured in “Those Canaan Days.” Will also be tracked in Ensemble.
 
Gad – seventh son. Will also play role of the Butler. See above blurb. Will also be tracked in Ensemble.
 
Benjamin – the twelfth and youngest son. Will also be tracked in Ensemble.
 
Judah – fourth son, sings “Benjamin’s Calypso” in a reggae style, needs good comic timing. Will also be tracked in Ensemble.
 
FEMALE ENSEMBLE – will portray a variety of roles including: Brother’s wives, Jacob’s wives, the Apache Dancer, the Angel voice, and will be tracked in the ensemble throughout the show. They sing and dance throughout the entire show. Looking for energetic singers who move well. Featured roles and solos will come from the ensemble.
 
CHILDREN’S CHOIR – male & female. Sing and dance along with main characters throughout the show. Only a maximum of 20 children will be cast.
