The Peacherine Ragtime Orchestra:
Masters of Silent Comedy with the Peacherine Ragtime Society Orchestra! The thrilling era of silent films comes alive again with the Peacherine Ragtime Society Orchestra! The PRSO, “the premier American ragtime ensemble” as acclaimed by the Washington Post, takes you back to the early 1900s as they accompany two silent films starring Buster Keaton and Laurel and Hardy from the turn of the last century with their historic, authentic orchestral scores. Between the films, hear Peacherine play the rollicking rhythms of the early 20th century, featuring favorites by Scott Joplin, Irving Berlin, and more! Fun for the whole family!
Formed by young virtuoso Andrew Greene at the University of Maryland in 2010, the PRSO recreates the syncopated stylings from a bygone era – ragtime, musical theater, dance selections, and silent film accompaniment – all performed off of the original turn-of-the-century orchestral scores. The ensemble is primarily composed of young musicians, age 35 and below, and has been widely praised for their work preserving and performing America’s musical past. Peacherine has appeared at leading venues including The Kennedy Center, The Library of Congress, The American Film Institute, state-of-the-art performing arts centers, historic theaters, colleges, universities, and concert associations.
Frequently PRSO’s work has been featured in documentaries, online video, and is heard on radio and podcast programs across the United States, including Hot Jazz Saturday Night (WAMU 88.5, Washington DC), Ragtime America (KGNU 88.5, Boulder, CO), and Rapidly Rotating Records (KISL 88.7, Catalina Island, CA). The PRSO records for Rivermont Records, whose three albums, Elite Syncopations, Step With Pep and That Teasin’ Rag have been called “first class”, “wonderful, toe tapping fun”, and “the most satisfying ragtime orchestra collections available.”
