November 2, 2016

Today, it is our pleasure to spotlight Rachel Burghen, playing the role of Fiona MacLaren in OBSP”s upcoming production of Lerner & Loewe’s classic musical, Brigadoon.

Burghan says, “I grew up listening to the music of Brigadoon and have been hoping for a chance to play Fiona MacLaren for as long as I can remember.  Now that it’s finally happening, it really is a dream come true.  It’s an honor to perform this music alongside my talented co-star Don Fransko, who was also my Harold Hill in OBSP’s The Music Man, and the rest of this amazing cast.

Rachel Burghen stars as Fiona MacLaren in OBSP’s production of Brigadoon.

Rachel Burghen  is a music teacher at Highland Academy in Absecon NJ.  She lives in Buena, NJ with her husband Ben and their two children, Peter and Clara who she was also fortunate to share the stage with several times. She enjoys performing, traveling with her adventurous family and raising rabbits and chickens with her daughter Clara.  Rachel is a classically trained singer who began performing at local nursing homes and senior centers when she was 12 and started doing musical theater in 2010. Favorite past roles include Marian Paroo (The Music Man), Julie Jordan (Carousel),  Cosette (Les Miserables) and Lily (The Secret Garden).

When asked what she loves about Brigadoon, Burghen expressed, “The story is enchanting and magical. My favorite part is a line Mr. Lundie says:  ‘When you love someone deeply, anything is possible. Even miracles.’  To me this message is the heart of the show.  It is such a pleasure to hear in a world filled with so much turmoil, one that I think can speak to every person and tug on every heart-string.”
