What is a Relaxed Performance?
Our Relaxed Performances aim to create a safe, welcoming, and judgment-free space for everyone, especially those who would benefit from a more informal experience.
Our Relaxed Performances are designed for anyone who needs a more flexible and comfortable theater experience. These shows adjust house rules to create an inclusive environment, making them ideal for people with autism, sensory processing conditions, anxiety, learning or intellectual disabilities, difficulty sitting still or quietly, as well as families with infants and toddlers. Anyone who prefers a more relaxed theater setting is welcome to enjoy these performances.
At these performances, audience members are encouraged to bring fidget toys, headphones and other items that may help them enjoy their visit.
What to Expect at Our Relaxed Performances
While the artistic integrity of a play remains the same, the audience experience of relaxed performances differs in a few key ways.
- Talking Permitted: A ‘no shush’ zone where talking is allowed.
- Communication Devices Permitted: Devices like tablets or AAC tools are welcome. (No filming)
- Noise-Canceling Headphones or Earplugs encouraged: Bring your own, or ask us for help if you would like earplugs.
- Light Adjustments: We’ll make house-side adjustments to house lights—nothing on stage changes.
- Flexible Seating: Change seats or stand as needed for comfort.
- In and Out Privileges: Move in and out of the theater whenever you need to.
- Designated Quiet Area: A quiet area is available if anyone needs a break.
- Tactile Elements: Fidgets and sensory-friendly artifacts for modulation are encouraged.
- Lobby Video Feed: The lobby video feed is available for our live performances, so that you may still watch the show if you are in the lobby
- Pre-show materials, called “priming materials”, are available for each show, to help you prepare for the show. They are available for download.
Who Are Relaxed Performances For?
- Families with Young Children: Especially for those who prefer a more flexible, relaxed theater setting.
- Families with Neurodivergent Children: Including those who are autistic, or have ADHD, or other sensory needs.
- Individuals with Sensory Sensitivities or Disabilities: For those who may find traditional theater overwhelming and need a calmer environment.
- People with Dementia or Cognitive Challenges: Providing a comfortable, supportive space for individuals with dementia or cognitive conditions who may benefit from a relaxed and flexible setting.
- Anyone Preferring a Relaxed Experience: Enjoy theater without the pressure of strict etiquette.
Preparing for your Visit
Before each performance, we provide priming materials to help you and your family get ready for the show. Those show prep materials help you and your family prepare for the show by introducing the story, characters, and sensory elements in advance.
You’ll also receive our general “Know Before You Go” (KBUG) guide with tips and details to ensure a stress-free visit at the Levoy Theatre.
Upcoming Relaxed Performances
White Christmas
Based on the beloved, timeless film, this heartwarming musical adaptation features 17 Irving Berlin songs and a book by David Ives and Paul Blake. Veterans Bob Wallace and Phil Davis have a successful song-and-dance act after World War II. With romance in mind, the two follow a duo of beautiful singing sisters en route to their Christmas show at a Vermont lodge, which just happens to be owned by Bob and Phil’s former army commander. With a dazzling score featuring well-known standards including “Blue Skies,” “I Love A Piano,” “How Deep Is the Ocean” and the perennial title song, White Christmas is an uplifting, wholesome musical that will delight audiences of all ages.

Disney's Winnie the Pooh, Kids
Welcome to the Hundred Acre Wood, where Winnie the Pooh is once again in search of honey. Along the way, he meets his pals, Tigger, Piglet, Rabbit and Owl, but soon discovers that Christopher Robin has been captured by the mysterious Backson! As they prepare for a rescue operation, the animals learn about teamwork, friendship and, of course... sharing snacks.

Marvelous Wonderettes
This smash Off-Broadway hit takes you to the 1958 Springfield High School prom, where we meet Betty Jean, Cindy Lou, Missy, and Suzy: four girls with hopes and dreams as big as their crinoline skirts! As we learn about their lives and loves, the girls serenade us with classic ‘50s hits including “Lollipop,” “Dream Lover,” “Stupid Cupid,” and “Lipstick on Your Collar.” In Act II, the Wonderettes reunite to take the stage and perform at their ten-year reunion. We learn about the highs and lows the girls have experienced in the past decade and are charmed to find that no matter what life throws their way, they will conquer it together. Featuring over 30 classic ’50s and ’60s hits, The Marvelous Wonderettes will keep you smiling in this must-take musical trip down memory lane!

Beetlejuice, Jr
It’s our show now, kid. The ghost-with-the-most comes to the stage in Beetlejuice JR., the frightfully funny musical based on the beloved motion picture turned Broadway phenomenon. Lydia Deetz is a strange and unusual teenager, still grieving the loss of her mother and obsessed with the whole “being dead thing.” Lucky for Lydia, she and her father move to a new house haunted by a recently deceased couple and Beetlejuice, a delightful demon with a real zest for life. When Lydia calls on Beetlejuice to scare away anyone with a pulse, this double-crossing specter shows his true stripes, unleashing a (Nether)world of pandemonium.

It’s 1962 in Baltimore, and the lovable plus-size teen, Tracy Turnblad, has only one desire – to dance on the popular “Corny Collins Show.” When her dream comes true, Tracy is transformed from social outcast to sudden star. Cinderella
This story follows Ella, a young woman who is forced to do chores for her cruel stepmother, Madame, while dreaming of a better life. This Broadway version of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella is a contemporary retelling of the classic fairy tale that includes new characters, a funny book, and the beloved songs of Rodgers and Hammerstein.
