When it comes to music and theatre in Millville, NJ, no two entities are more closely aligned than The Levoy Theatre and The Off Broad Street Players. While they’ve worked under the same roof since 2012, the two companies announced today that they have officially joined forces financially and artistically – making The Levoy the region’s premier theatre company.
“Artistically, this decision makes perfect sense,” said Bryan Pitt, Artistic Director, The Levoy Theatre. “Our styles and artistic visions are very similar and we work extremely well together. When you combine our natural synergies, the OBSP’s strong membership and audience and our newly upgraded facility, you get a production powerhouse able to inspire and attract people from the region to come and enjoy theatre at its best.”
Under the new agreement, Pitt will serve as Co-Artistic Director with the OBSP’s Walter Webster. Pitt’s focus will be primarily on production, while Webster will oversee all music and provide artistic direction.
“Next year marks Off Broad Street’s 20th anniversary and I can’t imagine a better way to celebrate it than becoming a permanent part of The Levoy,” said Walter Webster, Artistic Director, OBSP. “From our humble beginnings in a church hall, to setting up shop in a fire company and then in a few schools, we are incredibly excited to call this beautiful theatre home. Together we will continue to offer top-quality productions — and hope to one day expand to provide classes for both children and adults. The possibilities are now endless.”
As part of this announcement, The Levoy Theatre unveiled its productions for the 2017 season. They include: The Who’s Tommy; Sister Act; Peter Pan; The Full Monty; Inherit the Wind; and A Christmas Carol.
The Levoy Theatre and OBSP share a mission of promoting the study of and appreciation for musical theatre and the arts, as well as providing the opportunity for people of all ages to experience and enjoy Broadway worthy productions at a reasonable price right in the heart of South Jersey.
