Since this is a practice session, and not a “teaching” session, we suggest that you take a bit of time to acquaint yourself with the tunes in advance. You don’t need to work on all of them; come and play what you are comfortable practicing. We’ll be practicing at about 50% of traditional speed (hence, “SLOW” session!), so it’s a great tempo to really learn the tunes well.
Having sheet music can be helpful for some players at first. Since Celtic music is a folk tradition, ultimately you will want to learn not to rely on sheet music. We encourage you to learn to play by ear; and to learn to play by memory.
If you would like to use sheet music, please print the tune before you come. Each tune has the music available in standard musical notation as well as in ABC notation. If the tune is available in more than one key, please be sure to print the music in the key we will be playing it in.
Bring your instrument and music stand (and printed music) if desired! Chairs provided.
Cost: Free, but donations appreciated to offset costs.
