Cast Spotlight for “The Who’s Tommy” – Julie DiDomenico

January 19, 2017

This week, we are incredibly excited to spotlight another of the local lead performers in the Off Broad Street Players’ production of the rock sensation, The Who’s Tommy.

Julie DiDomenico will be taking on the role of the Acid Queen when the musical hit takes the Levoy Theatre’s stage. About her upcoming character, Julie says, “The Acid Queen is not who you think she is. She is not solely a provider of sinful pleasures, wants and needs. There is some sort of magic that draws people to believe in her and follow her, even though she knows it is nothing more than an illusion…This is quite a journey and I hope to encompass her completely.”

Julie has recently performed at the Levoy Theatre in Brigadoon, Chicago (Liz), Rock of Ages (Waitress 1), and Ragtime. She says, “I am excited about everything but mostly, I am eager to become a character completely different from any other I have portrayed. The Acid Queen is a challenge for me and I love a good challenge”

Outside of the hit song “Pinball Wizard,” Julie, who has a passion for musical theatre and is a fan of Classic Rock after becoming the lead singer of a local band did not know much about The Who’s Tommy, prior to the Levoy Theatre’s season announcement. But she explains, “Once I heard [The Who’s] Tommy was opening Levoy’s year in theater, I had to get to know more about it.”

She expresses, “Music has always spoken to me, no matter the genre.”

In regards to the hit musical score of The Who’s Tommy, Julie professes, “The music is hypnotizing. The harmonies are haunting. The lyrics make you think.  And just when you believe you understand the characters, something else is still hidden within the story. There are so many levels to the story and so much life in the characters.”

You won’t want to miss Julie DiDomenico’s fabulous take on the role “the Acid Queen” in OBSP’s stellar new production of The Who’s Tommy, sweeping onto the Levoy’s stage February 10 and running through February 19.
